When I was on the job market, I tried to play my cards close to the chest. Within any given discipline, it can be a small world, and I knew that some of my classmates were in competition with me for the same positions. Sometimes I’d see a congratulatory message to a friend, for a job I applied for, only to get the rejection letter sometime later. The disappointment was a little easier to take, knowing that others didn’t know (for sure) that I was also a candidate.
We all need a shoulder to lean/cry on … I guess the lesson here is to choose carefully.
