Awhile back, an article appeared in the Chronicle by a woman on the job market who shared “TMI” with a colleague about a position she was interested in.  Long story short, the colleague ended up applying for, and getting, the job, and the woman felt she’d been burned.

The following is a response to that piece, on why we should expect such things in our business.  She makes some very good points.  On the job market, I knew I was competing with some of my closest friends and colleagues.  You can’t be resentful about the outcomes - you just have to do your best, and let the chips fall.

  2. anthroling said: the competition is one of the reasons I don’t tell my colleagues what I am researching or what I want to research either…I think it is getting to the point of insane competition, but you have to know it exists so you don’t end up like this one.
