Gradness Madness

I was just channel-surfing and came across an old episode of Little House on the Prairie.  A sixteen-year-old Laura Ingalls had just been offered her first teaching job.

On the morning of her first day, she is striding across the prairie toward the little one-room schoolhouse, where the children are playing outside.  She looks both determined and terrified.  Cut to the children, who stop their play to stare at her as she approaches.  One of them says “hey, that must be the new teacher.”

Cut back to Laura, who looks resolute - and a bit sick.

I so identified with her in that moment, I almost cried.
