Here are some good tips for prepping for oral exams.  Having been through the experience, I concur with the authors that the oral exam should be more like a conversation than a presentation.  It’s nerve-wracking, to be sure, but it’s also an opportunity to share your ideas and your work, and to get constructive feedback from faculty.  It’s ok to say “I don’t know, but here’s what I’m thinking,” or to admit you made a mistake or misspoke.  Everyone in that room wants to see you succeed.
